Your computers have both hardware and software.



Why are Software Created?



Software is created by programmers,
using programming languages.



System software:
is any software that enables the computer to work properly, such as:
1. operating systems / OS
2. compiler / interpreter / assembler / translator / library program
3. utility software
All application software have to be compatible to the operating system and hardware.

Operating Systems:
is a big software that helps processors to control and organise the whole computer system. Example:
Microsoft Windows, Ubuntu Linux, MacOS, Red Hat, Unix, Android, etc.

Application software:
is any application that carries out useful work for us.
(It's also called software that performs user-oriented tasks). Example:
Word processors, spreadsheet applications, video editors, photo editors, music players, video players, web browsers, communication app, calculators, etc.

Utility software:
is an extra system feature, that may not be included in your operating system.
drivers, anti virus, firewall, cache and cookies cleaners, etc.

Peripherals = input and output devices
